 MISSION               

  
     T. W. Dick Company is a structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication business with a very diverse product-line background.  The company was founded in 1890 by Thomas Ward Dick as a blacksmith shop.  Mr. Dick came to Gardiner from L'etete, New Brunswick, Canada in 1883.  His sons, Ralph and Charles, took over the reigns and expanded the business 40 years later, after his father's death, and when rail delivery to our door was possible.     
      A line of wholesale steel products, and the fabrication of steel tanks, hoppers, and smoke stacks were added for the growing manufacturing industry; especially Maine's paper and wood products industry.  
   Eventually ownership passed to Myrtle Willey, and T. W. Dick Company became the first women-owned steel company in New England.  Myrt began her duties with the company as a bookkeeper and took on more responsibility when her leadership abilities became obvious to owners.  After decades of working for others, Myrtle was able to purchase the company herself, and continued the traditions of the Dick family by offering local service to hobbyists, as well as delivery of manufactured products to industrial giants. 
     Requests for Estimates became the norm, take-offs from blue-prints and the making of Shop Drawings introduced a sophisticated challenge to T. W. Dick's technology, and again changed the face of production.  Maine was realizing a reduction in manufacturing as the state experienced a surge in new commercial and residential construction.  As is the case with progress; regulations, codes, certifications, and mandates demanded the company keep pace with trends, so T. W. Dick Company contracted the services of an estimator/draftsperson, Paul Rheaume. 
   Paul purchased the company from Myrtle in 1995, and with his expertise grew the Structural and Miscellaneous Steel Fabrication program, and a line of Industrial Hardware to compliment the innumerable projects being completed for the construction trade.      
   We continue to deliver a large assortment of wholesale steel items throughout Maine, attend to a large walk-in-trade, and serve the various needs of General Contractors, State, and Federal Agencies.
    T. W. Dick Company has been a locally owned business since 1890, employing people in our community, and supporting local businesses and government agencies for over 117 years.  With a reputation that stands for quality workmanship and customer satisfaction, we look forward to meeting you and helping you complete your steel projects.
